The Search

Let's see if I can make a good habit of writing in my journal once a week!

I know I have mentioned before that I live in the Middle of Nowhere. Luckily, only fifteen to twenty minutes from Middle of Nowhere is Somewhat Somewhere, also known as the town of Culpeper. I was fortunate enough to visit this town on Sunday. Unfortunately Sunday turned out to be the coldest day of the week, but even that couldn't make me regret getting out of my house, since I hadn't really left for a fun trip in quite a while.

I kept seeing users on pkmncollectors posting about the TOMY merchandise of our favorite little monsters, so I asked my mother if we could venture into town so that I could check. She looked at me as if I was a little crazy, but agreed nonetheless. When we got to Target, I left her at the Monster High dolls and went in search of all those capturable creatures. I had great trouble finding the Pokemon display, since the TOMY packaging is more nondescript than the old Jakks boxes were. My mother came over to help me, and she was successful in finding them. I mainly collect plush, so that's where I started. I picked up the Oshawott, but it paled in comparison to the Japanese TOMY one that I already possessed. The head shape looked a little odd and the body did not have as much stuffing in it. It just didn't have that nice, round Oshawott shape. I was saying this out loud, and my mother agreed with me about his shape and stuffing. I do have to say that the material for the body might have been a little softer than mine, but the overall look wasn't as good. I began to look at the Snivy plush.

Just then, my mom picked up the Tepig. She gasped and gushed about how cute he was, calling him "Pigga Wigga." I told her that I didn't think he was as cute as she did. She gasped and began wiggling him around as if he were walking up to me. She said, "But don't you love Pigga Wigga? He's the cutest!" She then bobbed his head as if he was talking to me.

I couldn't help but laugh. My mother can be so fun and silly. She didn't want him for herself, but didn't manage to convince me to buy him either*. I then regarded the Snivy in my hands. There was just something off about him. He was cute, but his head looked so strange-like they forgot the frontal bone in his skull. He looked like a character on a cartoon who had taken an anvil to the forehead but had suffered no swelling. Even though I had gone there in hopes of going home with a Snivy, I just couldn't manage to spend my money on that one. Mom tried again to get me to buy Tepig, but I just wasn't in the market for a little fire piggy, even though he did seem to be the most accurate plush of the three. None of the figures jumped out at me as something that I had to have either. Apparently, I didn't have to catch them all.

Since we had errands to run at Wal-Mart, we also went through their toy aisles. My mom, who is a doll collector, stopped to look at some of the Barbies. We continued to cruise through the toy aisles. She was looking at another type of doll, whose name escapes me, when I spotted a tangled mass of My Little Pony plush on the bottom shelf. I'm not a hardcore fan of the show, but I do enjoy it and have favorite ponies, Fluttershy and Applejack, and I had been wanting a plush of each. I got her attention to show her the mass of tangled pony plush. I reached my hand in to pull out one of the Pinkie Pies, Twilight Sparkles, and Rainbow Dashes that were jumbled together and grabbed a leg. I pulled it out while saying, "These are really cute, but they never have the ones I like." At this point, I turned to see which of the three I had pulled. I was shocked to find the aqua eyes of Fluttershy looking back up at me. From the middle of the pile, I had pulled the only Fluttershy-the only pony that wasn't one of the three aforementioned ponies. I took it as a sign that I should get her.

I then resumed my search for Pokemon. We moved through the boys' toy aisles in hopes of finding more of the new TOMY toys, but there were none to be found. I went to Big Lots while mom looked for cards at the dollar store next door. I had found some Jakks figures there the last time I had gone, which was very exciting, but there were none to be found this time. Since I still had time to kill, I looked at the toys in the girls' aisle as well. The most noteworthy thing was a line of plastic horses with style-able manes and little pictures on their flanks that appeared strikingly similar to figures of the older My Little Pony generations. They looked so unenthusiastic sitting there in their cardboard boxes. I almost bought one as a gag gift for a friend, but I resisted (so far).

I didn't exactly acquire what I had set out to find and purchase, but I did manage to get out of my house and buy something I wanted but wasn't expecting to find.

* We already own a plush of Alphonse Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist that neither of us wanted for ourselves. He had a cute face and was holding a cat who had an equally cute face. Somehow, we own him. I'm not sure how it happened or who paid (Though I think it was either mom or we split it.), but he left the store with us that day. We didn't know what to do with him, so we created a game. One of us hides Al. When the other person finds him, she announces it and then hides him again for the first one to find in an unending cycle. I don't know exactly where he is right now, but, soon enough, one of us will shout, "I found Al," and it will begin again.

I haven't read through the whole entry yet, but I just wanted to say: Yay for writing again! I'm trying to write regularly as well, and so are a group of my friends. Livejournal really just isn't as fun unless there's new things on your friend's feed to see other than community entries, so seeing others writing again is quite motivating. :)

Aaaah! I'll need to check your journal again when I get home from the doll show I'm going to. My mom is a doll and toy collector, so she's selling at a show in Richmond this weekend. It is fun to write again and read what others write, but my friends page is drowning in egl_comm_sales posts! XD
